A candle can be a thing of beauty and fragrance. But it can also result in a disaster, if not handle with safety and caution. Here are some basic candle burning tips to help you get a positive experience from your candle.

1. Keep your candles stored in a cool, dry place to keep moisture out that may hinder lighting and re-lighting the wicks.

1. Before lighting a candle, inspect the container that your candle is in and do not light it if the container has cracks where hot wax can seep through and burn something.

2.Place the candle on a safe heat-resistant surface, even if the candle is inside a holder of some kind. Keep in mind the container can get very hot, so make sure nothing touches its sides. .

3. Make sure area surrounding candle and flame is dry and not near anything flammable. Do not leave your box of matches near the candle!

4. Check candle burning area to make sure it is out of children’s and pet’s reach.

5. Before lighting candle, trim wick if necessary, so that it is no longer than a quarter-inch high (to avoid large flames and smoke).

6. Unless your specific candle instructions say otherwise: (1) only allow approximately 4 hours max for your candle to burn (2) help candle to burn evenly by tipping carefully to get rid of excel liquid wax into coffee mug or other safe container (3) extinguish when a little wax still remains to avoid overheating container bottom and / or surface the container sits on with excessive heat.

7. If possible, to avoid smoke and possible wax flying, extinguish flames with candle snuffers.

8. Do not leave your burning candle unattended. Never! This means even when you go to bed - -put it out first!

9. Never place a lid on the candle until is has been extinguished and cooled a little.
